At the CLC, art therapy is grounded in the principle that the creative process in the making of art is healing and life enhancing. Art therapy sessions are presented in an engaging, yet structured, manner in order to allow the children an opportunity to explore materials and techniques as independently as possible.
Goals dealing with socialization, communication, impulse control, sensory awareness, task mastery, self-esteem and frustration tolerance are often addressed during sessions. Materials and art tools are adapted to enable students to engage in art tasks with minimal assistance.
Art therapy provides an important opportunity for self-expression and fun, especially for children who are still developing their language skills.
